Sunday qualification was another day with good but a bit cold weather, good for racing that is. In the first session on Saturday, Kjell was racing besides Dan Larsen and both started in a good fashion with a 0.987 60 foot time for Kjell, but his car made a move to the left and he had to back of the throttle to correct at half track, while Dan was storming down the track. A non improving 6.615 @ 229.93 mph was the result. Kjell and the team are aiming at doing it better in the afternoon session.

In the afternoon qualifying session, Kjell was running with Leif Andreasson. It's the last qualifying pass and any improvements must be done now. Kjell was leaving the starting line well and scored 0.998 at 60 feet to Leif's 0.954 who pulled away to a #1 spot.

Kjell had to shut down when the gearbox broke at 300 meters and coasted to the finish line at 6.050 @ 214.60 mph, with no improvement on the # 6 spot and a damaged gearbox to repair. The engine also took some beating by the over revs following the transmission failure. It was late before the car was in order. But with all properly done, it's set to run again in tomorrows elimination.
